Sponsored by Trilogy Funds, the Awards annually celebrate the best in Australian and New Zealand urban development. There are 22 awards across 2 main categories: Development of the Year and Industry Excellence. Within the latter, Best New Proptech “recognises a disruptive technology, platform or software within the property industry”.
“utecture has certainly been disrupting the fragmented, complex and costly pre-construction phases in building projects,” says Tonnet. “Our pioneering cloud-based platform brings together all a project’s key data, tracks the metrics in real time and provides the client, architect, surveyors, suppliers, builders and project managers with a digital twin that adjusts easily to changes in inputs and design”.

Visualising buildings as data is Tonnet’s long-desired step in revolutionising the building industry. Since his earlier years at Mirvac, Leighton, Stockland and more recently the Donovan Group in New Zealand, Tonnet has been equally concerned with improving efficiency and customer certainty. He wanted to create technology that could automate, model and predict exactly how a final plan will look and function, the materials required, how much it costs and how long it takes to complete.
utecture’s resultant platform connects the gaps between each vendor’s tools of the trade, integrating the disparate technology, software and systems that define even the smallest data points of a project.
utecture: putting real-time visualisation and price, even climate impacts, into the hands of developer and home buyer
Users benefit from the utecture platform’s design and project management features, but even more crucially, its energy and greenhouse gas reduction capabilities, which were ratified last year by three universities (Monash, the University of Melbourne and the University of Queensland) and the Green Building Council of Australia.
“The sooner we embrace this data-thinking shift, the sooner we can start implementing the next generation of technology to help us consistently deliver to schedule and with un-rivalled transparency of price and process, transforming customer expectations and unlocking revenue,” Tonnet concludes. “And not just customer and commercial outcomes, but climate and natural resource impacts as well”.
The Urban Developer Awards gala dinner will be held on 4 August 2022 at The Star, Gold Coast, where the winners will be announced.
